• Check with your doctor.

• Go through a “detox diet.” Begin eliminating foods made with gluten and see how you feel.  If you feel better, keep reading.  Otherwise, you may need to check with your doctor or tested to detect your gluten tolerance level.

• Get your blood tested for gliadin IgG antibodies.  If you are allergic to any food type, your immune system will be activated and produce antibodies.  These antibodies called immunoglobulin E, IgE, will be present in your blood and tissues.  Gliadin IgG test specifically looks for antibodies that the immune system develops when they are exposed to gluten. If you have antibodies, you are allergic to gluten.  If you have symptoms similar to the allergy, but no antibodies, you are probably sensitive to products that contain gluten.

• Elimination of gluten from your diet.  There is no cure for celiac disease or a gluten allergy. The only viable remedy is to avoid gluten entirely.  However, this can be complicated, as the grain used as additive in things like soups, sauces and dressings for salads, but if you know this, you can lead a normal life without gluten.
